Upcoming Electric Cars Spied On Test In India – Creta EV To e Vitara

Mahindra will unveil two new born-electric SUVs in India on November 26, the BE 6e & XEV 9e

Electric vehicles are currently the talk of the town and a bunch of car manufacturers in the Indian market are planning to launch new EVs. In line with this, the test mules of multiple upcoming electric cars have already been spied testing in the country, thereby confirming their imminent launch. In the article, we will look at the upcoming electric cars spied on test in India.

1. Hyundai Creta EV

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) will debut the Creta EV in the Indian market early next year, most likely at the 2025 Auto Expo. The test prototype of the electric Creta has been spied multiple times in the country and it will share the design with the latest Creta facelift, albeit with some EV-specific touches like a blanked-off front grille, EV badging inside out and aero-efficient alloy wheels amongst others.

In terms of the powertrain, it will use a 45 kWh battery pack with the power output rated at 138 bhp and 255 Nm of peak torque. This setup is a straight life-off from the base-spec version of the latest generation Kona EV sold in the international markets.

2. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

The production version of the eVX concept electric SUV recently made its global debut and it has been dubbed the e Vitara. Maruti Suzuki will launch the EV SUV in the Indian market next year i.e. March 2025 and it will be the brand’s first electric car in the country. The global model will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat-based facility. The EV will measure 4,275 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

Internally codenamed YY8, the e Vitara is based on an all-new born-electric skateboard platform, the Heartect-e (codename: 40PL). There will be two battery packs on offer, i.e. a 49kWh and a 61kWh unit with power output ranging up to 184 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque for the AWD variant.

3. Kia Sonet EV

The Sonet EV was recently spied testing in India, confirming its launch in the domestic market. Expected to debut sometime next year i.e. 2025, it will be the first mass-market EV from Kia in the Indian market. While the details of the project are under wraps, we expect the Sonet EV to come with a claimed range of around 400 kilometres on a single charge.

In terms of design, it will likely carry minor updates including some EV-specific changes like a blanked-off front grille, aero-efficient wheels, EV badging on the body and a few tweaks to the design elements inside out. Once launched, it will go up against the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV3XO EV.

4. Mahindra XUV3XO EV

Mahindra launched the XUV3XO in the Indian market earlier this year and its electric version is on its way. The XUV3XO EV is already under development and has been spotted multiple times during test runs. Internally codenamed S240, the Mahindra XUV3XO EV is expected to get a 35kWh battery pack.

It will be positioned below the XUV400 EV in the brand’s line-up, squarely aimed at the Tata Nexon EV. As per the reports, the XUV3XO EV will likely debut by the end of this year and we expect it to be launched at a starting price of around Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom).

5&6. Mahindra BE 6e & XEV 9e

Mahindra & Mahindra will unveil its new series of born electric SUVs in India on November 26. Based on the BE.05 and XUV.e9 concept electric SUVs which have already been spied numerous times, the production-spec models will be dubbed BE 6e and XEV 9e, respectively.

Based on the brand’s born electric INGLO skateboard architecture, the Indian carmaker recently teased these EV SUVs, partially revealing the exterior design and interiors. The Mahindra BE 6e will be positioned in the mid-size electric SUV segment. Measuring around 4.3 metres long, the BE 6e will be offered with two battery pack options i.e. 79 kWh and a smaller 60 kWh unit.

The Mahindra XEV 9e electric coupe SUV will rival the likes of the Tata Harrier EV in the domestic market. As per the media reports, the production version of the XUV.e9 will only be sold with a RWD configuration and it will most likely share the battery pack and electric motor with the BE 6e. The design of both the upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs will be in line with their concept versions.
