Royal Enfield has today announced the launch of the Interceptor Bear 650 in India. It will be available for test rides and bookings from November 10 onwards and it carries a starting price of Rs. 3.39 lakh (ex-showroom). Inspired by Eddie Mulder’s victory at the brutal Californian desert race in 1960, the Big Bear Run, the Bear 650 comprises go-anywhere capabilities.
The new Royal Enfield Bear 650 derives power from the familiar 648 cc parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree firing order. It produces 47 bhp at 7,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 56.5 Nm at 5,150 rpm (torquiest RE within the portfolio) which increases the mid-range punch on the Bear 650 as compared to the other 650 models.
RE says the 2-into-1 exhaust system enhances torque and offers a broader powerband while the compact single silencer reduces weight and adds to the scrambler aesthetic. The retro scram flavour is everywhere as it gets open square tread blocks, contoured scrambler seats, kicked-up rear loop, competition number board and raised ground clearance (184 mm).
