by Surendhar M · GaadiWaadi.comToyota is gearing up to strengthen its SUV portfolio in India over the next two to three years with the launch of at least four significant models
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) plans to introduce up to four new SUVs in India over the next two to three years. Among these, a noteworthy addition will be an all-electric SUV based on the platform of Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara. Scheduled for a debut in the latter half of next year, this electric model will also target international markets as part of Toyota’s export strategy.
Before unveiling its electric midsize SUV, Toyota is likely to launch two new hybrid SUVs tailored for the Indian market. Additionally, the automaker may introduce a new off-road SUV positioned below the Fortuner, catering to enthusiasts seeking rugged capabilities at a more accessible price point. Here’s an overview of what to expect:
1. Toyota eSUV:
The midsize electric SUV, set to debut in the latter half of 2025, will draw design inspiration from the Urban SUV concept unveiled last year, featuring modern and aerodynamic styling. It is anticipated to offer an impressive driving range of up to 550 km. Built on a modified version of the 27PL platform, the SUV will come with options for both single and dual electric motor configurations.

2. New Toyota Fortuner:
The MHEV Toyota Fortuner, already available in several international markets, incorporates a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This setup boosts performance during acceleration and low-speed driving while improving fuel economy and reducing emissions when paired with the 2.8L four-cylinder GD series diesel engine. Meanwhile, the next-generation Fortuner is reportedly under development, potentially featuring a new turbo petrol engine.
3. 7-Seater Toyota Hyryder:
The three-row Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is expected to launch between early and mid-2025, entering the competitive midsize SUV segment. It will go up against rivals such as the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, Citroen C3 Aircross and the Hyundai Alcazar. The new version will boast updated styling and an improved feature set while retaining its current powertrain options, including the 1.5L mild-hybrid and 1.5L strong-hybrid petrol engines. Whether the AWD configuration available in the five-seater variant will also be offered in the three-row model remains to be seen.
