Google has decided to cancel its plans for the second-generation Pixel Tablet. The device was expected to come as Pixel Tablet 2. According to Android Authority, Google chose to stop the tablet’s development due to concerns that it might not do well in the market. The new report denies the cancellation of the Pixel Tablet, which apparently, remains alive.

At first, there was some confusion about which tablet was seeing the red light. Some reports have suggested that the Pixel Tablet 3 was the one that hit the dust. However, new information clears up the mess. It’s the Pixel Tablet 2 that won’t see a release. The Pixel Tablet 3, on the other hand, will arrive by 2027.

Senior Reporter Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority confirms the Pixel Tablet 2’s fate. After speaking with a trustworthy source, familiar with the project, he got the confirmation. This source previously had some images of the device. It explains that Google’s decision to halt the project is due to worries about potential financial losses.

Android Headlines later clarified that the canceled device was referred to by the code name “kiyomi.” While some initially thought this name was linked to the Pixel Tablet 3, both Android Authority and other sources confirm it stands for the Pixel Tablet 2.

The Pixel Tablet 2 was anticipated to feature Google’s Tensor G4 system-on-chip, the same processor powering the Pixel 9 series. In contrast, the Pixel Tablet 3 is rumored to use the newer Tensor G6 chip. It is slated for release in 2027. The Pixel Tablet 2 was planned for a 2025 launch. So it’s implausible for Google to begin developing the Pixel Tablet 3 while its predecessor was still in the prototyping phase.

The Pixel Tablet 2 was set to include both Wi-Fi-only and 5G variants. Additionally, Google had planned to launch an official keyboard with a touchpad for the tablet, emphasizing productivity. While the cancellation is disappointing, speculation suggests that the Pixel Tablet 3 could still be in development, with potential upgrades catering to power users.
