Celebrity SAS sees recruit exit after failing to keep up on assault course

When asked to hand over the armband, she protested: "I don’t want to accept it."

Comedian Shazia Mirza was pulled from Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins after she struggled to keep pace with her fellow competitors during an assault course in tonight's episode. The 45 year old fell behind from the outset of the "bee sting" task on the Channel 4 show, with directing staff urging her to "keep up" and "stop f****** loafing".

Ultimately, chief instructor Billy Billingham told her to surrender her armband, signalling her exit from the programme. When asked to hand over the armband, she protested: "I don’t want to accept it."

To which directing staff member Chris Oliver responded: "You don’t have a choice."

The challenge required the participants to complete a gruelling circuit that included submerging into a box of water and performing various exercises such as star jumps and press-ups.

Following Mirza's departure, British basketball player Ovie Soko, aged 33, contemplated quitting after a directing staff member mocked him for wearing Cherry Healey’s fleece when his own was damaged. Back at the barracks, Soko expressed his frustration to the others: "I think I’m going to go home."

adding, "They’re taking the f****** piss, like just don’t f****** take the piss out of me."

He continued, expressing his irritation at being ridiculed for wearing clothing that was too small for him, saying, "Don’t do that, don’t start taking the piss out of me for stuff that’s too small for me, because one I was f****** born this way."

Soko decided to exit and confided in the directing staff, with Billingham empathising, "something’s triggered something to day that’s deep in your heart" and respected Soko's choice to leave, but remained open for him to continue. On returning to camp, Soko was probed about his trust issues and he shared personal insights: "From when I was young, I was probably the bad sheep, I’ve got one older brother super smart, super intelligent."

"My mum, she’s a tough nut, you know? She grew up in Nigeria and she had a relationship with her father that was rough, it wasn’t easy for her."

"And that made her have to be a certain way, where it wasn’t really so much affection ever, it’s get s*** done, and when you don’t the whole family knows about it."

He also reflected, "Every time I did make a mistake it was broadcast in front of all of my cousins, in front of all of my siblings, and that space for a child, it’s not easy."

Earlier, the episode challenged the celebrities to extricate a VIP from a vehicle under simulated attack.

The exits follow Marnie Simpson, Tez Ilyas, and Chris Robshaw's departure last Sunday. Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins airs on Channel 4 every Sunday and Monday for its sixth series.
