ONEXGPU 2 hits Indiegogo for $839 (OCuLink GPU dock with Radeon RX 7800M)
by Brad Linder · LiliputingThe ONEXGPU 2 is a compact graphics dock that allows you to connect a n AMD Radeon RX 7800M discrete GPU to a laptop, mini PC or handheld gaming PC for extra graphics performance when you need it. First unveiled earlier this summer, the new eGPU is up for pre-order for $839 through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, and it’s expected to begin shipping to backers in November.
While that’s a discount from the $999 retail price, it’s still a lot of money to ask for a device that adds a laptop-class GPU to your existing computers. But the ONEXGPU 2 has a few interesting tricks up its sleeve that might help justify the high price.
For one thing, this is a dock that supports both OCuLink and USB4 connections, which means that you can get data transfer speeds as high as 64 Gbps when using the dock with devices that have OCuLink ports. But the 40 Gbps USB4 port means that you should also be able to use the dock with PCs that don’t have OCuLink… you’ll just get slightly less performance.
And this isn’t just an external GPU. The ONEXPLAYER 2 is also a USB hub with two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an Ethernet port, and support for up to three external displays thanks to two DisplayPort 2.0 and one HDMI 2.1 ports.
There’s also an M.2 2280 slot that you can use to add a PCIe 3.0 SSD, which can be used to store games or just generally expand the storage available to a connected PC.
As the name should make clear, the ONEXPLAYER 2 is a second-gen graphics dock from the makers of the original ONEXGPU, which launched in late 2023. The new model has a higher-performance GPU and… a higher price tag.
Both models are made by One Netbook, a company that sells handheld gaming PCs under the ONEXPLAYER brand, as well as a line of mini-laptops and other products.
While the original ONEXGPU featured an AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU from 2023, the new model features a brand new Radeon RX 7800M GPU that should offer a significant performance boost:

While the new graphics dock looks a lot like the original ONEXGPU and comes with the same 330 watt power supply, the new model is a little bigger and a lot heavier than its predecessor, presumably to make room to better dissipate the extra heat from the higher-power GPU.
