Lenovo’s ThinkBook Auto Twist concept laptop could become reality in 2026

Lenovo has been making 2-in-1 laptops that can become tablets for years – the company’s Yoga line of devices helped popularize the idea of laptops with touchscreen displays and 360 degree hinges. But last year the company introduced a concept device that combines some new and old ideas for how a convertible laptop/tablet hybrid should work.

Now, according to leaked info published by Windows Latest, it looks like the Lenovo ThinkBook Auto Twist could be ready to make the leap from concept to a real product you can buy.

Lenovo introduced the concept laptop in the fall of 2024, demonstrating a prototype for a notebook with the screen connected to the base with a swivel hinge that lets you rotate the screen 180 degrees until it’s facing away from the keyboard and fold it flat for use like a tablet.

This is actually a design PC makers have been using for decades. But what makes the Auto Twist different is that it uses a motor to rotate the screen automatically, allowing you to switch modes without manually reaching up to rotate and fold the display.

What’s more, the original concept was to use the laptop’s webcam and “AI” software to so that the swivel hinge can rotate and the screen can follow you as you move, allowing you to hop on a video call, for example, and walk around the room while staying in frame and having a clear view of the screen.

The motor also lets you open the laptop with a press of the power button, or use voice commands to close the laptop or switch between laptop and tablet modes.

Lenovo hasn’t officially confirmed plans to bring the Auto Twist PC to market yet, but according to Windows Latest it could be announced at CES and expected to go on sale in June for around $1500 and up.

The laptop is expected to have a 14 inch, 2880 x 2800 pixel OLED touchscreen display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, an Intel Panther Lake processor, support for up to 32GB of LPDDR5x-9600 memory, up to 2TB of PCIe NVMe storage, a 75 Wh battery, and a 10MP IR camera.

Expected to measure about 24mm (0.9″) thick at its thickest point, the laptop is a bit bulky by modern standards. But that’s most likely necessary to accommodate the motorized hinge that can twist in two directions. At just about 1.4kg (3.1 pounds), the laptop is still pretty lightweight.

Ports should include two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The laptop is also expected to have four microphones for noise cancellation and far-field voice detection and dual speakers.

Based on the image published by Windows Latest, it looks like Lenovo may have updated the design since first introducing the Auto Twist concept. But here are some of the pictures that the company released in 2024:
