Lilbits: Another Raspberry Pi handheld PC, encrypted RCS messaging between iOS and Android, and a foldable Logitech mouse
by Brad Linder · LiliputingIf I had a nickel for every time I saw a new handheld computer powered by a Raspberry Pi, I’d have… at least a few nickels. It’s an interesting idea: take a credit card-sized computer and stuff it into a compact device with a battery, touchscreen, and maybe a keyboard and you’ve got a portable Linux PC.
It’s also… a device that’s not really designed for mobile use. While Raspberry Pi computers have Arm-based chips that are energy efficient by desktop PC standards, they expect a consistent power level and don’t really do sleep, suspend, or low-power modes like most laptops, phones, or tablets. All of which is to say that while the new Pi Slate from Carbon Computers looks like a pretty nifty project, it’s unsurprising that the company only promises 3 to 5 hours of battery life.
Here’s a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.
Carbon Pi Slate is a Raspberry Pi 5-powered handheld computer with a 5 inch, 720p display, RGB backlit thumb keyboard, 10,000 mah battery, and support for low-profile HATs. Available now for $299 (barebones) or $449 and up (with an RPi 5). www.cnx-software.com/2026/05/11/p…
