ODROID-H5 single-board PC has Intel Core i3-N300, 10 GbE LAN, and four M.2 slots
by Brad Linder · LiliputingThe Hardkernel ODROID-H5 is a single-board computer with a low-power 8-core Intel Core i3-N300 Alder Lake-N processor, four M.2 slots with support for SSDs or other add-ons, a robust set of ports that includes a 10 Gigabit LAN connector.
Available now for $260, the ODROID-H5 isn’t necessarily an upgrade when compared with the previous-gen ODROID-H4 Ultra. Instead it offers some interesting trade-offs.
Both systems are single-board computers that measure 120 x 120mm (4.7″ x 4.7″) and feature octa-core chips based on Intel Alder Lake-N architecture. But the H4 Ultra had a 15 watt Core i3-N305 processor while the H5 has a 7 watt Core i3-N300 chip that Hardkernel says makes it a better fit for 24/7 operation. CPU performance is about 10-15% lower though.
Another tradeoff? The ODROID-H4 Ultra had two 2.5 GbE LAN ports, while the H5 has a single 10 Gigabit port. It’s faster, but there’s only one.
And while the new ODROID-H5 has four M.2 slots, they’re all slower than the single slot on the older model. The H4 Ultra had a PCIe 4.0 x4 connector, while the new model has three PCIe 3.0 x2 connectors and one PCIe 3.0 x1.
The older model also had four SATA connectors for optional hard drives, while the new model does not.
Some things that haven’t changed? Each model has a single SODIMM slot with support for up to 64GB of single-channel DDR5-4800 memory,

While the new model lacks some of the features of its predecessor, like SATA connectors and analog audio ports, the addition of three more M.2 slots opens the possibility of using adapter cards to add things like up to six SATA connectors, another high-speed network adapter, or third-party add-ons like wireless adapters or AI accelerators.
