Tank Pad Ultra is a $599 rugged tablet with a 1080p projector built in
by Brad Linder · LiliputingThe 8849tech Tank Pad Ultra is a rugged Android tablet with a big battery, a durable body, and a built-in projector. In other words, it sounds a lot like last year’s Tank tablet. But the new model has a brighter, higher-resolution projector and… a less powerful processor, for some reason.
First introduced earlier this month, the new Tank Pad Ultra is now available for pre-order for $599.
The rugged Android tablet features a 10.95 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 processor, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, and a 1920 x 1080 pixel DLP projector with up to 260 lumens brightness and support for auto-focus.
By comparison, the original Tank Pad has a faster Dimensity 8300 processor, but a less impressive 854 x 480 pixel, 100 lumen, manual focus projector.
The new model also has a bigger battery (23,400 mAh, up from 21,000 mAh in the Tank Pad), but both models support 66W fast charging.
The Tank Pad Ultra also features a USB 2.0 Type-C port with support for reverse charging, a microSD card reader, 3.5mm audio jack, a 50MP primary camera (Sony IMX766) and 64MP night vision camera (OV64B), 32MP front-facing camera (IMX616) plus a set of sensors that includes a gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, ambient light sensor, and distance sensor.
There are also dual nano SIM card slots with support for 5G NR and 4G LTE networks. Other features include support for WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC,
The tablet earns the “tank” in its name by sheer size alone – it measures 268 x 170 x 24mm (10.6″ x 6.7″ x 0.9″) and weighs 1.345 kg (2.97 pounds). But it has an integrated kickstand that also serves as a handle that might make it a little easier to carry.
