"The world is built": Skyblivion devs call for extra quest-making hands to help overcome the massive mod's "final roadblocks" to release
As for whether another development update video's coming, the modders say "gathering data and trying to display it in a way that is easily presentable to the public is a little harder then it used to be"
· Rock Paper ShotgunA couple of months on from pushing to make some vital veteran additions to their team in order to get their massive Oblivion remake mod over the line, Skyblivion's developers are once again appealing for volunteers to aid in overcoming some "final roadblocks" standing the way of its release. Meanwhile, it sounds like the chances of another statistical breakdown from the modders running down exactly what's left to be done are low, with Skyblivion's implementation lead asserting that the mod's so close to the finish line such data's no longer "a super relevant way of displaying our remaining work".
First of all, following on from announcements that the mod's Ayleid ruins and caves are finished, the modders latest update post declares "the world is built — now we need your help bringing it to life".
With the mod's locations "nearly complete", its creators are looking specifically for volunteers with experience editing quests. Folks to work on quests more generally was one of areas the modders' March recruitment post on Nexus Mods singled out, so this doesn't look to be a fresh need that's suddenly sprung up out of the blue. "We're tackling priority bugs and implementing quests that are the final roadblocks for our release," the Skyblivion team wrote to close this latest post. "If you've got the skills to volunteer, we'd welcome your help in getting Skyblivion released sooner."

That's another small progress update looped in with the call for volunteers, with Skyblivion project lead Kyle 'Rebelzize' Rebel having offered a more in-depth rundown of what was left on the to-do list when I spoke to him at that start of April. At that point, Rebel said the team have been "stretched thin" for a while, but were hoping to build on the positive momentum of having made a breakthrough in their efforts to finish putting together the Imperial City.
When the decision was made to delay Skyblivion's release from 2025 to 2026 late last year, the modders put together a detailed progress update video running through where each department sat. However, it seems another in-depth run through of where exactly things are at, specifically one which attatches completion percentages to specific areas of the mod, isn't on the cards at this juncture.
"An update to the statistics at this stage is not a super relevant way of displaying our remaining work as most things on paper are either done or very close to being done," implementation lead Heavy Burns wrote in response to a user on Skyblivion's Discord asking about such things early last week. "Outside of wrapping up 3D and LD work on the Imperial City and doing QA passes on the remaining interiors, right now we're tracking reports of things to address or fix, and the quest team has their own way of categorising issues that they are working through. So gathering data and trying to display it in a way that is easily presentable to the public is a little harder than it used to be when we [were] working through all of our required work, like replacing all the Oblivion assets, or doing unstarted interiors, etc.
"As areas of the project are signed off on, we're posting updates like the Ayleid ruins and caves both being completed QA and finalized. But things like quests are not so easily displayable at this final stage of development, as the work is ever waxing and waning, dependent on issue reporting, etc."
If you're an experienced quest editor and fancy getting involved in Skyblivion, you can volunteer via the mod's website.
