Crimson Desert's latest update beckons you to abandon the last of your attention span with its new 4x cutscene speed option

The need for speed

· Rock Paper Shotgun

There are a myriad of reasons you might want to skip a cutscene in a game. It plays right before a boss you keep dying to and you just want to get back to it, you're a speedrunner, hell, you just don't care all that much about the story but like the gameplay. Different strokes! What I don't really understand is a desire to watch all the cutscenes, but sped up, an option Crimson Desert has offered right from the get go. Which, through its latest update, can go even faster. So long attention span, I knew thee well.

Yes, Crimson Desert's 1.03.00 patch now lets you set that fast forward speed all the way up to 4x now. Truthfully, I don't know how one could even process anything happening at such a velocity. But what do I know! There are a few useful sounding accessibility features that have been added in however, like a minimum font size, and a number of different tweaks you can make to the camera.

The update also expands upon features like the one that lets you always be looking at Kliff's everyman face. With this patch there's now a weapon display option, which does what it says on the tin: it lets you hide your melee and ranged weapons. Beyond that, the update has also essentially made Abyss puzzles easier, with more hints, improved clarity, and better terrain in certain locations. You can also teleport through the Abyss Nexus while you're mounted, climbing walls, swimming, or falling, but that last one does sound a bit like too much of a get out of jail free card.

Some new abilities for both Kliff and others have been added in too. The protagonist himself now has a focused aerial roll ability, presumably a dodge while in the air, given the pre-requisite abilities needed. Damiane and Oongka both now have Axiom Force, Nature's Snare, and "related abilities" that are more "useful for open-world gameplay." Bit of everything seasoning update!
