You and I both know you're not sleeping well in this economy, so have a gander at Sheeps, a roguelite about counting sheep pouring out of a strange portal
Yes I know what the plural of sheep is
· Rock Paper ShotgunI've never really been able to do that whole counting sheep thing to get to sleep. Just doesn't work for me. Instead, my brain prefers to latch onto something embarrassing I said when I was 14 and then imagine what the people who heard that must think of me, conveniently forgetting that 15 years have passed since then and only I would ever remember such an inane moment of a life. Segue! Here's a going about counting sheep called, you'll never guess it, Sheeps, and it's a roguelite so it's actually more interesting than that, I promise.
"A mysterious rift has opened. Sheep are pouring through it. We have no choice but to count and shear them," explains the game's Steam page, setting the scene for how such a scenario would come about, as if just being a shepherd wasn't a good enough excuse. Things start off fairly simple. A bunch of sheep run across the screen, and you have to count them. There aren't too many of them, so it's easy enough early on. Of course, over time you'll have to deal with more and more and faster and faster sheep.
So, there are various upgrades that can help you do so, like every fifth sheep being blue, or the count is always even, or a bunch of grain spawns to distract the sheep giving you more time to count them, or you can suck them up with a magic bag. You get the picture! Occasionally some other, more sentient animals like a spider, or a chameleon, or business llamas might show up to help you out. In the llamas case, they'll tell you how many sheep there were (though some of them get it wrong), and you can tip them afterwards as thanks. I'm sure not tipping them won't work out in your favour.
It's all quite silly and, truthfully, doesn't look like it'd put me to sleep in the slightest. Relaxing, in a casual sort of way, but certainly not sleep-inducing. That's fine, like I said, doesn't work on me anyway. There's no release date attached to Sheeps just yet, so if you're desperate to get counting you'll just have to relegate yourself to your mind, but you can always throw it a wishlist on Steam while you wait.
