Fallout: New Vegas gets a Mojave interpretation of Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood, thanks to this assassin-focused faction quest mod
I got Sithis that jingles, jangle, jingle
· Rock Paper ShotgunWhile there's never been any shortage of characters who'll pay you to splatter some brains across the desert with your trusty anti-mat rifle in Fallout: New Vegas, a new mod adds a whole extra faction based around being a post-apocalyptic assassin. They're dubbed the Dark Family, and you get no prizes for guessing which robed gang of Elder Scrolls dagger-enthusiasts they're based on.
Essentially, the mod - dubbed Twilight Eternal - is a "transplantation and re-interpretation" of Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood into post-apocalyptic Nevada, complete with their own base, questline, and optional radiant assassination contracts. Given that, it probably won't surprise you to learn the modder behind this creation, ColdTyrant, is best known for their work adding a tonne of faction radiant quests to Oblivion Remastered not long after its release last year.
Having since set about doing the same for New Vegas and Fallout 3's factions, they've decided infamous Tenpenny Tower-affiliated evildoer Mr Burke's the ideal fit to fill the shoes of a post-apocalyptic Lucien Lachance. With the mod installed, once you kill your first innocent mark, he'll visit you mid-slumber and extend an invitation to the Dark Family's bunker.
There await a bunch of assassins with backstories to unearth and a main questline that rewards you with a player home upon completion. Meanwhile, if you're only in it for quick cash, ColdTyrant asserts that there are something like 10,000 combinations of target, place, and bonus objective across the mod's infinite loop of repeatable standalone murder contracts.
It's worth noting that unlike ColdTyrant's Oblivion Remastered faction mods, the earliest of which typically revolved around notes dishing out contracts, Twilight Eternal instead leans on dialogue. There are two files on offer when you go to download it, one for a version which uses ElevenLabs AI to generate voices for the new dialogue, and one which comes with blank audio files so the lines are only conveyed via soundless subtitles. The latter's specifically aimed at providing a version "for those that have no desire to download, endorse, or use AI content", and thus it'll be the version I go for if I opt to give this mod a go.
If you fancy giving it a whirl, installation's as easy as dragging some files to your New Vegas data folder or using your mod manager of choice.
