Frostpunk 2's next bit of DLC literally turns up the heat with yet another environmental disaster to deal with: volcanoes

It's due out this summer

Frostpunk 2 is, by its very name, a cold game. That's its whole shtick, that the world is covered by an apocalyptic blizzard, and it's on you to figure out how to keep your city running amongst the harsh conditions. This includes keeping everyone warm, so it does tickle me that the game's next bit of DLC, revealed to be titled Breach of Trust, essentially says "no, not that warm."

The DLC, which is slated to be released on June 23rd, brings you to New Edinburgh, a city built near a volcano. Said volcano was, notably, being used as a geothermal energy source, when - uh oh! - things start to get a bit eruptiony. That's where you come in, tasked with the responsibility of protecting New Edingburgh from a grave built by lava. A recurring issue you'll have to deal with in this DLC is a regular vote of trust that will essentially determine whether or not your city's citizens approve of your choices. "As unrest rises and volcanic ash fills the sky, the only refuge lies in a nearby colony set upon a frozen lake," explains a Steam blog post.

In terms of what you can expect from the DLC, there's some new story bits specifically centered around New Edinburgh. There's five unique communities and factions you'll have to balance and consider. Obviously, given the volcanic presence, there's new environmental hazards such as tremors and whatever the hell "Volcano Night" means (I'm sure nothing good). There's a couple of new scenario maps to try out, with five new buildings and hubs to play around with. And a few new, currently unspecified laws to implement.

If you've got the base game, you can also sign up to playtest the DLC if that takes your fancy, with the tests being planned for May. Beyond that, the survival city builder received an updated roadmap, mostly in the form of its third DLC getting a codename: surge. Seems like this one will be electricity themed. My bets are on lightning storms or some such equivalent. We'll find out sometime this year, as that's currently slated for release in 2026.
