Frostpunk 2's The Surge DLC keeps the wintery apocalypse and adds in faction-clash-inducing electricity and sets a seasonally appropriate December release date

You can blame Tesla for this one

For the time being, the world of Frostpunk remains a hypothetical, even if it's one that seems just that little bit more likely than I'd like it to be given who's in charge of the world. But at the very least, there are pockets of hope to be found in Frostpunk 2, namely with its newly revealed next bit of DLC, The Surge, a name that has been bequeathed to it for incredibly obvious reasons. Oh, you need me to explain them? Fiiiiine.

You and your probably not so merry band of survivors have been trekking across the UK, when you end up at a "mysterious valley." Apparently some rumours have been going round about a "marvel left behind by history’s greatest mind - a relic with the potential to reshape the world itself." So you go off to look for it, and it essentially seems like this relic lets you use a whole bunch of electricity. Only, despite how useful this is for automating a bunch of work, various factions disagree over how it should be used, "while the secrets hidden within the valley prove far more difficult to uncover than anyone expected."

In terms of what you should expect from this DLC, for starters there's a new scenario to check out "set in an entirely new region, far beyond the borders explored in Frostpunk 2 so far." This relic is also implied to have come from the mind of one Nikola Tesla, you know, the electricity guy. There'll apparently be ways to utilise the Great Storm that's ruined the planet to "turn catastrophic whiteouts into valuable, harvested and stored resources." And you'll have some hidden treasures to find and mysterious to uncover in various nearby caves and ruins.

All sounds neat enough! And it's not too far away either. The Surge is currently slated for a seasonally appropriate December 14th release date. Let's hope no real world environmental disasters get in the way of that, 'ey? While you wait for it, you can wishlist the DLC on Steam.
