June 25 : The Trump administration has asked OpenAI to stagger the release of its new model over security concerns, The Information reported on Thursday, citing a memo from the company to its staff.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman informed staff during a Q&A session the company would release its latest model, GPT 5.6, in a limited preview to a small group of partners, the report said.

Altman told staff the government would be "approving access customer by customer during this preview period" for GPT 5.6, according to The Information.

The request for a staggered release came from conversations with two key government agencies, the Office of the National Cyber Director and the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the report said.
