Windows 11 Snipping Tool Gets Another Upgrade

by · Tech Viral

Microsoft recently released a new upgrade for the Snipping Tool app, which allows users to easily copy structured data formatted as a table from screenshots and paste it directly into documents, emails, or spreadsheets.

This new feature, “Copy as Table,” has been rolled out as an update for Snipping Tool (version 11.2409.22.0 and newer) to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels. It enhances its existing optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities. Currently, the Snipping Tool app allows users to copy text from an image and redact sensitive information.

According to Windows Latest, Microsoft has added this add-on feature for the Snipping Tool in the latest experimental build of the OS and Tool.

To use the new “Copy as Table” feature in the Windows 11 Snipping Tool, you need to follow the below steps:

  1. Capture a Screenshot – Take a screenshot of the table that includes the data you want to copy.
  2. Access Text Actions – After capturing the screenshot, click the “Text actions” button.
  3. Copy as Table – Select the “Copy as Table” option to extract the table’s structured data.
  4. Paste the Data – You can paste the copied table directly into apps like Excel, Word, or an email while maintaining the original table format.

The feature works best when your screenshot contains only one table, as there is a chance that the tool may capture unnecessary elements from the interface.

The “Copy as Table” feature is available for testing on devices enrolled in the Windows Insider Program, either through the Dev Channel or the Canary Channel, which allows users to try new and experimental features ahead of the stable release.
