An IndiGo flight enroute to Mumbai from Goa received a bomb threat on Monday evening. However, after security checks were done, the bomb threat turned out to be hoax.

According to an airline spokesperson's statement on Tuesday, the flight 6E 5101 was taken to an isolation bay after its landing at the Mumbai airport. All the passengers were safely evacuated, the statement read, as reported by news agency PTI.

"All standard operating procedures were followed and the aircraft was positioned back to the terminal post clearance from relevant authorities," the spokesperson said.

The carrier has however not disclosed the number of passengers onboard the flight.

A note was discovered onboard the plane with a message about the alleged bomb threat, an airport official said on Tuesday.

Following the incident, a complete emergency was declared at the Mumbai airport at around 10:30 PM. It was withdrawn after an hour at 11:30 PM. The authorities responded promptly to the threat and conducted thorough checks and searches to determine the threat's credibility. The threat later turned out to be hoax. The airport resumed its normal operations and allowed passengers to continue with their journeys as scheduled.

Last year, the airline had confirmed receiving bomb threats for several flights. In their statement issued in October 2024, IndiGo had confirmed that flights from Goa to Ahmedabad, Pune to Jodhpur, and from Jeddah to Mumbai had received threats. The airline had ensured the safety and security of its passengers and crew and that it was working closely with the relevant authorities to tackle the situation and taking all the required precautions.

The menace of hoax bomb threats has continued this year as well. These threats cause disruptions for several hours sometimes, hitting the airlines financially and also causing inconvenience to the passengers due to delay and rescheduling of flights.
