An Air India flight operating from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi following a security concern arising out of a bomb threat, Delhi Police said on Monday. The aircraft is currently stationed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and all standard safety protocols are being followed to ensure the safety of passengers and crew on board, the police added.

The incident comes a month after an Air India flight from Mumbai received a bomb threat, prompting it to land at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. A "Bomb in flight" message — written on a tissue paper — was found in the washroom of the plane.

A spokesperson of the airline said the flight was diverted after receiving a "specific security alert".

"Flight AI119 operating from Mumbai to JFK on October 14 received a specific security alert and on instructions of the government's security regulatory committee was diverted to Delhi. All passengers have disembarked and are at the Delhi airport terminal" the spokesperson said.
