Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Leak Reveals Wider Foldable and Major Upgrades

Samsung’s next foldables may bring one of the most meaningful design changes Fold fans have been asking for: a wider form factor, alongside notable hardware upgrades for the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8. Recent leaks suggest Samsung is preparing both a regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a wider companion model, tentatively referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, with the latter aimed at improving usability in the closed state.

Samsung could be gearing up for a more ambitious Fold refresh in 2026, as a new leak points to not one but two premium book-style foldables in development. In addition to the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, the company is also said to be working on a wider variant that may finally address one of the lineup’s longest-standing criticisms: the narrow outer display.

According to the leaked details, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to adopt a broader body and more practical aspect ratio, making it feel closer to a conventional smartphone when folded shut. If accurate, that would mark a significant shift for Samsung’s Fold series, which has often been criticized for offering a cover screen that feels too tall and cramped for everyday typing and one-handed use.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also rumored to receive a meaningful set of upgrades. Previous leaks point to an 8-inch inner display, a 6.5-inch cover screen, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, a larger 5,000mAh battery, and potentially faster 45W wired charging, which would be a clear improvement over the 25W charging seen on earlier Fold models.

Samsung may also be making improvements to the camera system and overall hardware package. Reported specifications include a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide sensor, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, vapor chamber cooling, and configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and as much as 1TB of storage.

Design changes could extend beyond size alone. Leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may end up slightly thicker than its predecessor, though that extra space may be used to accommodate the bigger battery and possibly other internal refinements. Some reports have also speculated about the possible return of S Pen digitizer support, though that remains far less certain.

While Samsung has not confirmed any of these details, the broader direction of the leaks suggests a company that may finally be responding to years of user feedback. A wider Fold model, better battery life, and more competitive charging would together represent a more practical and consumer-focused evolution of Samsung’s flagship foldable strategy.
