Wondering what a word on the front door of the Midvale School for the Gifted could be in a famous Far Side cartoon? Not sure what MA or MS, but not BA or BS might mean? Don’t worry, because I'm here to help you with the answers for today's NYT Mini crossword.

The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper's larger and long-running crossword. Most days, there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you’ll need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

Completed New York Times Mini crossword for Wednesday, January 8New York Times

It took me 0:36 to complete today's NYT Mini.

A decent time, especially considering that I got only three of the Across clues on the first pass. A-TEAM was simple enough and I’m not too proud admit that I counted the letters up to J on my fingers. ARSE was surprisingly easy given that it appeared in Connections this week (Connections editor Wynia Liu also constructed today’s Mini).

I had no idea about the Far Side thing and thought at first that 7 Across referred to types of college degrees. A LATTE, meanwhile, is my coffee order of choice.
