Centre Okays Rs 991 Cr Leh Bypass project
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu Tawi, Jul 8: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said the Government of India has approved the construction of the Leh Bypass (Southern Alignment) in the Union Territory of Ladakh at a cost of ₹990.51 crore.
In a post on X, Gadkari said the project involves the construction of a two-lane highway with paved shoulders from NH-01 near Phyang village (HPCL Plant) to Upshi on the Leh–Manali Highway (NH-03).
The strategically important project will decongest Leh town by diverting through traffic and provide a high-quality alternative corridor connecting NH-01 and NH-03. The bypass will also facilitate faster, safer and more efficient vehicular movement across the region.
The minister said the project will strengthen regional connectivity, improve road safety and support the long-term economic growth and tourism potential of Ladakh.
