Boeing 737 Cabin Ceiling Collapses Mid-Air in Iran: Passengers Panic as Plane Lands Safely

Tehran, Sept 16: Passengers aboard a Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 in Iran were left terrified after sections of the aircraft’s cabin ceiling and overhead compartments came loose during an emergency return to the airport, according to reports.

The aircraft was operating a flight from Mashhad to Kermanshah on September 15 when it developed a problem shortly after takeoff. One of the tyres on its landing gear reportedly burst, causing damage to an engine and triggering severe vibrations inside the aircraft.

Videos recorded inside the plane showed passengers gripping their seats and screaming as the aircraft shook violently. Parts of the cabin ceiling lining and overhead compartments subsequently detached, with some belongings falling onto passengers.

The pilot turned the aircraft around and returned to Mashhad Hashemi Nejad International Airport, where the plane made an emergency landing.

According to reports citing the Razavi Khorasan provincial government, the aircraft lost one of its landing-gear tyres shortly after takeoff. The tyre failure reportedly damaged one of the engines, resulting in intense vibrations during the emergency return.

Brazilian news outlet UOL reported that the flight was brought back to the airport safely.

Footage shared on social media showed ceiling panels falling inside the cabin as passengers braced themselves during the shaking.

Despite the frightening scenes, no injuries were reported. Passengers and crew were safely evacuated after the aircraft landed. (Agencies)
