Air India CEO Campbell Wilson Resigns, Says Source
by Northlines · NorthlinesMumbai, Apr 7: Campbell Wilson has resigned as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, a source said on Tuesday, marking a significant leadership change at the Tata Group-owned airline.
According to the source, Wilson conveyed his decision to the Board and stepped down from the position. An official response from Air India on the development is still awaited.
Wilson was appointed CEO and MD in July 2022 after Ilker Ayci declined the role earlier that year amid controversy. The airline had been acquired by the Tata Group from the Government of India in January 2022.
Earlier this year, sources indicated that the Tata Group had begun searching for a successor as Wilson’s five-year tenure was scheduled to run until 2027.
Meanwhile, leadership gaps persist within the airline group, with its low-cost arm, Air India Express, remaining without a head since March 19 following the exit of former Managing Director Aloke Singh after completing his tenure.
Wilson had also faced criticism since June 12 last year after the crash of a London-bound Boeing 787-8 flight shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, which claimed 241 lives out of 242 people on board.
