Airtel is the First to Bring Advanced 5G Slicing Capability

by · Northlines

Bharti Airtel has upgraded its 5G network with advanced slicing technology capabilities to deliver a better and more consistent experience for Priority customers on its postpaid plans.

With 5G slicing, the network becomes more efficient by intelligently allocating resources and creating additional capacity where required; this allows Airtel to offer an enhanced experience for specific customer segments without affecting the standard public internet experience for regular users.

Unlike traditional mobile networks where all traffic moves through the same layer, 5G slicing enables the operator to create dedicated virtual layers within the same physical network infrastructure. This helps improve performance, reduce congestion and deliver more stable connectivity in high traffic areas.

A simple way to understand the technology is to compare it with a highway system when a dedicated emergency or transit lane is created, traffic movement becomes smoother for everyone. Similarly, slicing helps separate critical or high-priority traffic from standard usage patterns, improving overall network efficiency.

According to Airtel, 5G slicing uses intelligent and dynamic resource allocation to optimize existing spectrum usage. This helps prevent network congestion while maintaining a fast and stable internet experience for all users on the network.

Globally, slicing-based 5G services have already been introduced in markets such as the United States, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Malaysia with this launch, Airtel is bringing India closer to the latest global developments in advanced 5G network technology.

The company also clarified that the capability is aligned with net neutrality principles. Unlike practices that prioritise or block specific websites or apps, 5G slicing remains content and application agnostic. The technology is designed to improve the overall network experience using available capacity rather than discriminating between services or platforms.

Airtel says the capability is available for customers on eligible postpaid Priority plans and is aimed at improving reliability and consistency in locations where network demand is typically high, including airports, business districts, offices, crowded venues and large public events.
