Srinagar, Apr 25: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday conducted searches inside Srinagar Central Jail in connection with a terror-related case, recovering and seizing digital communication devices during the operation.

Police said the action was carried out under a warrant issued by the Special Court designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar, linked to an FIR registered in 2023 under multiple sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Police Station CI Kashmir.

Acting on credible technical inputs suggesting suspicious digital signatures within the jail premises, search operations were conducted across several blocks and barracks in coordination with prison authorities.

“Incriminating material in the form of digital communication devices, having bearing on the investigation, was recovered and seized. These devices will undergo detailed forensic analysis to establish links and uncover a larger terror network,” police said.

Investigators are also examining the apparent security lapse that allowed such devices to enter the high-security facility. Authorities said the role of facilitators and collaborators involved in the breach will be thoroughly probed, with legal action to follow.

The operation is part of a broader effort to gather crucial evidence, curb illegal activities, and prevent misuse of communication devices in sensitive zones like prisons. It also aims to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory by identifying and prosecuting terrorist associates and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) involved in unlawful activities.
