Pak drones pose threat
by Northlines · NorthlinesRecently, the Home Minister Amit Shah has assured that the government has decided to completely transform the country’s border security arrangements. He has made it clear that a quadrangular security grid will be established, under which the public, the civil administration, the local police, and the military will work alongside the Border Security Force (BSF) to strengthen the borders.
According to the Home Minister, a new concept of ‘territorial security’ will replace the traditional approach of mere border security. It is pertinent to mention that under the Smart Border Security Project, efforts are underway to fortify the security grids along the borders. Once completed, no one will dare breach the borders. Although work in this regard is in progress, the situation along the borders with Pakistan in J&K and Punjab is quite critical as adversary drones often come to this side for giving shape to Pakistan’s nefarious designs by dropping arms and ammunition, narcotics consignments, and even counterfeit currency to destabilize India and continue to create unrest in the Union Territory of J&K.
In the same context, army troops opened fire at a Pakistani drone after it intruded into Indian Territory in Poonch district. However, the unmanned aerial vehicle returned to Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) after briefly hovering over some forward Indian posts in the Balakote area of the Mendhar sector. This is a common modus operandi adopted by the ‘terror factory’ Pakistan for a long time now as these flying objects are extensively used to dent the interests of India and its people. Mostly these drones entered Indian Territory during night time or in the wee hours to drop illegal consignments for the over ground workers, who later pick up the packets of arms and narcotics for disrupting peace in J&K as it is known to one and all that the proceeds of the drugs smuggled through this method is also used for fuelling terrorism.
It is really praiseworthy that LG Manoj Sinha has been spearheading the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan in the region with strong resolve and the results achieved in this 100-day campaign are phenomenal so far. In the case of spotting a drone in Mendhar, the troops fired around nine rounds at the UAV but failed to hit the target as it was flying at a considerable height. Security forces carried out searches to ascertain whether the drone had carried out any airdropping during its flight over the area but nothing suspicious was found on the ground. Going by such a crucial situation, it has become necessary that the Centre should take all possible steps to bolster security along borders to plug in gaps and stop Pakistan to continue with its proxy war.
