Night temperature drops in Kashmir, Srinagar shivers at -2°C
by Northlines · NorthlinesSRINAGAR, Dec 4: Kashmir Valley experienced a significant drop in night temperatures, with Srinagar recording a chilly minus 2.0°C on Wednesday, officials said. The cold wave continued to tighten its grip across the region, with tourist destinations such as Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Konibal experiencing even colder conditions.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of -2.0°C, 0.8°C lower than the average for this time of year. Pahalgam, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, was the coldest, with temperatures plunging to minus 4.8°C, a significant 1.5°C below the usual temperature for this period. Gulmarg, a popular ski resort, recorded minus 3.5°C, 0.4°C below normal, while Konibal also saw minus 4.5°C.
Other areas also witnessed a drop in temperatures. Qazigund recorded a low of 2.2°C, while Kupwara registered minus 1.2°C, still above the normal range for the area. The picnic spot of Kokernag saw a slight improvement in temperature, recording 0.4°C, 1.0°C above normal.
The Meteorological Centre stated that the weather is expected to remain dry until December 7. A weak Western Disturbance is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir between December 8 and 9, bringing light rain and snowfall to isolated higher reaches. No significant weather changes are expected until December 14.
