Delhi High Court Gets Bomb Threat Email, Security Alert Issued

NEW DELHI, Aug 14: The Delhi High Court received a bomb threat email on Thursday, triggering a security alert and prompting authorities to step up security measures ahead of Independence Day celebrations, officials said.

The email, carrying the subject line “BOMB Blast Delhi High Court @ 2:11PM”, claimed that bomb blasts would take place at the Delhi High Court at 2:11 pm and at district courts at 3:11 pm on August 15.

The threatening message also mentioned the Red Fort, Delhi Metro and trains arriving from Ambala, besides making references to Khalistan and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Following receipt of the email, security agencies were alerted and precautionary measures were intensified in the national capital.

Security has already been tightened across Delhi and several other parts of the country ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The heightened security comes as the national capital prepares for the main Independence Day function at the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation.

Authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance at key government installations, public places, transport hubs and other sensitive locations as part of the security arrangements for the celebrations. (Agencies)
