Celebrations Erupt Across Kashmir After US-Iran Ceasefire
by Northlines · NorthlinesSrinagar, Apr 8: Celebrations broke out across Kashmir following the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, with many people terming it a “victory” for the Islamic Republic.
Hundreds of people, particularly in Shia-dominated areas, gathered on roads in different parts of the Valley to mark the development.
Festivities were reported from Saidakadal and Zadibal in Srinagar, as well as districts including Budgam, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Pulwama and Bandipora.
Waving Iranian flags, people celebrated the ceasefire by bursting crackers and distributing traditional Kashmiri kehwa.
Several participants described the ceasefire as a victory for Iran over the US and Israel. “This ceasefire is a victory for Iran. They brought the US and Israel to their knees. Today, we are celebrating this victory,” a member of the Shia community in Budgam said.
Earlier, fundraisers were organised in Kashmir in solidarity with Iran, with people donating money and valuables to support those affected by the conflict.
Kashmir and Iran share deep cultural, linguistic and religious ties, with the region often referred to as “Iran-e-Sagheer” (Little Iran). (Agencies)
