THE latest round of funding and long-term partnership offered through a Ports of Jersey programme – supporting initiatives that make “a meaningful environmental, social and economic contribution” to Island life – is now open to applications.

The Community and Sustainability Partnership Programme is open to Jersey-based registered charities, not-for-profit organisations and individuals.

It offers partnerships of up to three years, with no fixed funding limit – though Ports has stated that previous partnerships have typically been in the region of £3,000 to £5,000.

The States-owned entity noted that the programme aims to support initiatives “that make a meaningful environmental, social and economic contribution to life in Jersey”.

“Funding is available for a wide range of projects, including those supporting children and young people, vulnerable communities, education, inclusivity, environmental protection, biodiversity and circular economy initiatives,” the statement explained.

“Ports of Jersey is also keen to support projects linked to the Island’s aviation and marine environments, as well as initiatives that help promote Jersey both locally and internationally.”

Successful projects may also benefit from employee volunteering, fundraising support, staff engagement opportunities, sustainability initiatives and other collaborative activities.

All applications must be submitted via an online application process that can be found on the ports.je website.

The applications window will close on 11 June, with the decisions due to be announced in September and partnerships started in January next year.

Sophie Alexander, Ports of Jersey’s head of sustainability and community value, said: “We have a responsibility that goes beyond operating our airport and harbours – we are part of the fabric of Island life.”

She continued: “Over the last three years, our Community Partnership programme has been hugely successful, working alongside 16 local charities and not-for-profit organisations who are making a real difference in our community.”

In addition to financial support, Ms Alexander said the partnerships “show the value of long-term collaboration” and reinforced the importance of Ports playing “an active role in supporting local people, strengthening our communities and protecting the environment for future generations”.

One of the charities that has benefitted from a partnership with Ports is Helping Wings, which aims to share the excitement of flying in a light aircraft with Islanders who would otherwise not get the chance.

Eveline Hawkin, who chairs the charity, said: “Our relationship is more than just financial as Ports of Jersey gives us their constant support for all our activities – for our yearly events, flying awards and help in bringing Aerobility over from the UK allowing those with a lower limb disability to fly at the control of a specially adapted aircraft.”
