Google Fi lands some major improvements as it expands to 22 new regions

by · Android Police

Google Fi isn't the most popular wireless carrier around, but it does offer some alluring features if you're someone who's looking to try a new service. Despite being an MVNO, it's quite versatile, offering a range of plans to suit different needs. And the brand also makes improvements every so often in order to lure in new customers.

Perfect timing for the busy summer season

With that said, Google has just announced a few changes to its service ahead of the busy summer travel season. And we think you're going to like them. Perhaps one of the most important changes is that coverage is expanding. That means you'll be able to get Google Fi service in 22 new regions, with the brand highlighting Morocco and Colombia, bringing the total to 110+ countries.

Furthermore, the brand's Wi-Fi Auto-Connect+ feature is also expanding, with new locations, including spots in Europe and Asia. Wi-Fi Auto-Connect+ is a great solution that allows Fi users to connect to trusted local Wi-Fi networks, saving them from using precious mobile data while indoors or abroad.

In addition, those with Pixel phones will see a more seamless experience when using Google Fi, as the service will now be able to automatically shift between international networks to provide the best service. Google Fi's VPN service will also secure your connection in more places, with Google highlighting Korea and Japan as new destinations.

You never want to head to a destination just to find out that your phone service isn't working when you touch down. Google Fi ensures that it will proactively verify your phone is working with the service, even before you head out on your vacation. Naturally, Google is doing all it can to convince people to try its service, and it now even has a promotion that knocks 50% off for 12 months.

New subscribers and those switching from other carriers will be able to save 50% on the Unlimited Premium plan for 12 months. It's important to note that Google Fi service works all over the world. So, you can use it as your primary service, and also use it when you travel to other regions.

I've personally used it for my main line without issues in the US. I've also trusted the service to provide a reliable connection when I'm traveling abroad. While I've only been to a few countries, the connection to Fi was good. The calls and texts came in without any problems, and the data was lightning fast.
