The 8BitDo FlipPad turns your Android phone into a Game Boy

Nintendo’s Game Boy is long gone from store shelves, but not from our hearts. Now 8Bitdo is bringing it back to our fingertips with the FlipPad controller that looks like it came off the classic mobile console and that you can attach to an Android device to visit Super Mario Land again.

Built for nostalgia

The FlipPad is perfect for playing emulator games on the go. It has all of the essentials, with a D-Pad, ABXY buttons, Select & Start keys, and L1/L2 and R1/R2 buttons.

The FlipPad attaches to phones using USB-C, which 8bitdo says is rated for over 10,000 insertions.

What puts the flip in the FlipPad is a hinge that lets it flip onto screens (with a protective pad sitting between the controller and the glass) for gameplay and off to use your phone without having to detach it. 8Bitdo says that the hinge is rated for over 6,000 open/close cycles.

The FlipPad comes in the classic Game Boy colors but for those who want something a little less noticeable, it also comes in an all-black version. It fits on phones that have a thickness of 8mm to 10mm and should accommodate most phone cases.

The FlipPad works with Android devices on Android 13.0 and above. It goes on sale today for $29.99 and is available on 8Bitdo’s site as well as Amazon.
