YouTube Premium just got a major upgrade with free Peacock access

YouTube used to be a pretty big part of my daily streaming experience. So it made complete sense to have a Premium subscription, allowing me to skip over ads, background play, and video downloads. The service also offers extra perks, with the major one being a free YouTube Music Premium subscription. Now, the brand is stepping things up, offering users free access to Peacock Premium.

Peacock Premium will be part of the YouTube Premium experience in the US. It will be the ad-supported version, which retails for $10.99/month. Users will gain access to popular TV shows, movies, and even live sporting events. For the most part, this is a huge perk considering that there isn't any additional fee.

If you're not really sure what Peacock is, you can check out some of the offerings that it has. For the most part, it has a pretty good array of content, with popular shows that are currently airing, like The Day of the Jackal, and some older classics like The Office, Parks and Recreation, Community, and Yellowstone.

YouTube shares that this perk will be available soon. Although this all seems like great news, we hope that there won't be any price increases due to this new bundle. The latest price increase occurred just last month, upping plans by $4/month. That's a sizable chunk for those subscribing in the US.

At the time, we talked about how it was important to take advantage of all the benefits of Premium, especially because the price had risen. So again, we hope that YouTube's addition of Peacock won't raise prices anytime soon. The core components of the service are good enough.

Those that need to save some money can opt for the YouTube Premium Lite subscription, which comes in at $9/month. The difference being that it doesn't include access to ad-free YouTube Music, and there is the possibility that ads will show up in videos, it will just happen less frequently.

The plan also lets you download videos and play videos in the background. However, not all videos will be eligible. It's a bit vague, but for the most part it should work just like the more expensive plan. If you're someone that's a fan of YouTube and its content, we recommend going with a paid plan.

One thing to note from the press release today is that only "eligible" accounts will get the Peacock Premium perk. If we had to guess, the Lite plan would not gain access to this feature.
