Spotify is slow on Android, but there's an easy fix while the company works on a real solution
by Mark Jansen · Android PoliceIf you've been feeling like your Spotify Android app has been taking longer than usual to perform tasks, then you're not alone. A number of users have noticed their Spotify is nowhere near as snappy as it was.
Thankfully, Spotify has noticed their complaints and is working on a fix. So if you're frustrated by how long it takes to get your tunes going, at least you know it won't be like this for long.
The Spotify app is slowing down on Android
A reinstall often fixes the problem
In a Reddit post titled " Spotify has gradually become unusable. I mean literally unusable", u/hypothethical explains their issue.
As you can see, the problem is a gradual slowdown across the app, with hypothetical's app lag during any number of usually routine tasks. They tried to fix the problem by clearing the app's cache multiple times, but has still been left with some pretty terrible lag.
Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be a one-person problem. Other users chimed in with their own experiences of Spotify slowdown, indicating a pretty universal problem.
One would normally suspect aging hardware or low storage in cases like this. However, the problem seems to be spread across devices. The original user sports a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, supporting the aging hardware theory — but other fans are also finding problems using their phones, including one Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is far less likely to be experiencing problems with hardware getting older.
It seems to be largely the Android app suffering from these issues, with iOS and Windows not getting any reports of slowdown. However, the CarPlay version of Spotify was highlighted by one user as a problem.
Thankfully, the short-term solution is easy, as one user recommends reinstalling the app as a way to fix the slowdown. Whether this fixes the problem long-term is another question, however.
But Spotify is already on the case. In a separate post on the Spotify Community forums, Spotify admits there's a clear problem, and it's taking steps to fix it. If you're having the slowdown problem, make sure to follow Spotify's request on that post.
