5 Android keyboard improvements

Before Jelly Bean, the default Android Keyboard was basic at best. It was the first app I replaced on any Android device. It was functional but not something to rave about, especially in a market dominated by third-party alternatives like SwiftKey. It offered the features and customization I yearned for, like predictive typing, swipe gestures, and themes.

Then came Jelly Bean, and suddenly, the equation changed in Google's favor. It introduced next-word prediction and auto-correction, which actually worked. It learned my typing habits and offered accurate suggestions (most of the time). Gesture typing, or swiping, also became a reality with Jelly Bean.

While I can't rave about my Pixel 8's astute voice typing capabilities, Jelly Bean introduced the power of voice recognition offline, allowing me to dictate text anytime, anywhere. The UI still left a lot to desire (something Google only fixed with a Material makeover).

Google Now harnessed the power of user data, location, search history, and calendar entries and displayed traffic updates before commutes, boarding passes before flights, and weather forecasts for upcoming trips.

Unlike the rest of the Android UI, Google Now had a clean, visually appealing card format, making it easy to digest and interact with. While Google Now was revolutionary, it was only the beginning. The search giant continued to refine and expand its capabilities and evolved it into Google Assistant. Now rebranded as Gemini, Google's AI assistant has reached new heights, building on the foundation laid by Jelly Bean's Google Now.
