Leaked firmware reveals a 4:3 aspect ratio for Z Fold 8 Wide
by Karandeep Singh Oberoi · Android PoliceSamsung is developing an original Pixel Fold-like wide-screen foldable, and that's no secret.
Early leaks and rumors about the potential device first started emerging all the way back in September last year, highlighting that the wide-body foldable will make its debut with the regular Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 later in the summer of 2026.

We subsequently saw what the device might look like thanks to system animations found in early One UI 9 test builds. Fast-forward to March, and reliable source, Digital Chat Station, even leaked all major specs.
From what we know now, the upcoming wide-body foldable will feature a 7.6-inch screen, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, and a 4,800mAh dual-cell battery.
Now, firmware files for the upcoming device have again made an appearance in a leaked One UI 9 build, and this time around, they bring information about the device's aspect ratio, as highlighted by the folks over at SamMobile.
The upcoming device will ditch its predecessors' dimensions and move to a 4:3 aspect ratio. For reference, when unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 boasts a 1.11.1 aspect ratio, which gives the screen a square-ish look. The Z Fold 8 Wide, on the other hand, will feature a rectangular look to it, offering a much wider viewing area when compared to older Z Folds.
Will the new form factor make it harder to use the foldable with one hand? Definitely yes. Will it offer more of a tablet-like experience when unfolded? Also, yes.

Samsung might be looking to compete with wider foldables, including its own trifold, with the upcoming release. It could also be an answer to Apple's first foldable, which is also reported to sport a wider form factor.
Samsung's first wide-screen foldable is expected to launch this summer. We expect to learn and share more about the device in the coming weeks, though from what we already know, apart from the aspect ratio change, the device wouldn't be very different from older foldables.
