Motorola Edge 70 Max is a 7,100mAh battery beast in disguise
by Andy Boxall · Android PoliceMotorola continues to build up a strong range of Edge 70 smartphones with the announcement of the Motorola Edge 70 Max.
What’s interesting here is the design departure for the brand, and how tempting the specification looks for the price.

Motorola Edge 70 Max design
The Max name already hints at the Edge 70 Max’s status, and this carries across in the high-end design.
Motorola has left the textured rear panel behind, and given the Max a matte Corning Gorilla Glass 7i rear panel and an aluminum chassis. It’s unusual to see a full flat rear panel on a modern Motorola phone too, and it gives the Edge 70 Max a chic, up-to-date style.
Color experts Pantone return though, which is a good thing, although the colors here aren’t as bright as we’ve come to expect. The Pantone Aqua Grey is joined by Pantone Dark Shadow and Pantone Ice Melt.
The phone is 8.29mm thick and weighs a substantial 221 grams, but this is reflected in the massive 6.82-inch AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate, and huge 7,100mAh silicon-carbon battery.
The massive battery will be good news for those wanting long use time without compromising on style, or having to pay top money to get a flagship, considering we were so impressed with the smaller cell's ability in the Edge 70 Fusion.
It’s also good to see both IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings, plus MIL-STD-810H toughness certification too.
What about the Edge 70 Max’s performance?
We’re pleased to see the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. The chip isn’t part of the Elite range, but it’s powerful, reliable, and doesn’t suffer from overheating in the phones we’ve used.
It’s paired with only 8GB of RAM though, and there’s 256GB of storage space, plus Android 16 is installed out of the box.
The rear camera module contains a 50MP Sony Lytia 710 main camera and an 8MP wide-angle camera, plus a macro camera too. This is a slight step down from the Edge 70 Fusion, which at least manages a 13MP wide-angle camera. On the front is a 32MP selfie camera.
Other features include 90W wired charging, 25W Qi2 wireless charging, and stereo speakers.
Price and availability
Like other Edge 70 series phones, the Edge 70 Max has not been announced for the US at this time. It may arrive in the future under a slightly different name, and with minor spec changes.
Blame Motorola’s endlessly confusing product strategy for this.
The Motorola Edge 70 Max is available to buy from July 15 in the UK and Europe, where it costs £700, which is around $930.
