Wear OS 7 arrives and gives your Pixel Watch control over Google's smartglasses
by Andy Boxall · Android PoliceGoogle has announced the latest Wear OS 7 operating system is being released for compatible Pixel Watch models from June 16.
It brings a range of new features, and gives us a peak at how Google sees smartwatches interacting with its forthcoming smartglasses too.
Smartglasses control on your wrist
Google states Wear OS 7 has been built from the ground up to work with other connected devices. This includes both earbuds, and Google’s future smartglasses too.
It provides one example, where when you take a photo with your smartglasses, you’ll be able to preview the image on your smartwatch, instead of reaching for your phone.
Elsewhere, Wear OS 7 will enable media control for earbuds and smart home speakers, plus give the option to switch audio playing from one device to another.
Gemini Intelligence
Google went into detail about Gemini Intelligence during Google I/O 2026, and some features will make it to Wear OS 7, most notably the Create My Widget feature.
Initially revealed during The Android Show, Create My Widget will be really helpful on a smartwatch. It allows you to create custom dashboards and widgets just from verbally explaining them to Gemini.
Gemini Intelligence also takes control of different tasks, and through access to other Google apps, it can make reservations and order food deliveries.
Live Updates
Staying with food orders and other time-sensitive tasks, Live Updates arrives on smartwatches with Wear OS 7. It provides an at-a-glance look at activities when they have a time associated with them, such as progress towards a delivery, and scores from sporting events.
Power and efficiency improvements
Google’s promising Wear OS 7 will bring system-level power optimizations that will extend the amount of time you’ll get from a single battery charge.
While it’s going to depend on what you do with your smartwatch, Google estimates the average user will see a 10% improvement in battery life with Wear OS 7.
What smartwatches will get Wear OS 7?
The Wear OS 7 software update is compatible with the Google Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3, and Pixel Watch 4.
