BOOX owners are getting the ultimate reading accessory Kindle owners are desperate for

Kindles may lead the market in terms of pure e-reader sales, but Amazon has been less than generous when it comes to accessories for its reading devices.

In fact, BOOX just beat the world's largest online retailer to bringing in a very simple and obvious accessory — a Bluetooth page turner. Named Tappy, BOOX's new remote is a charming companion that can be retooled to work differently, depending on the type of media you're consuming (via Android Authority).

An adorable book-reading companion, not just a remote

It's clear from the first glance that BOOX didn't go down the easy route when designing Tappy.

While it's all too easy to just make a little plastic remote and call it a day, BOOX has clearly gone the extra mile with Tappy. It's shaped like nothing more than a tiny typewriter with just two little keys. BOOX says it designed Tappy to be comfortable to hold for long periods of time. Those keys aren't just for looks either, as BOOX says they have a reassuring but gentle clicking sensation when used.

It has a pleasingly level-like on/off switch, and it has a USB-C port for recharging. It pairs with your device by Bluetooth, and it has a number of modes to change each key's function, depending on whether you're reading a book, browsing a webpage, or listening to an audiobook.

It comes with a pair of replacement keys, the battery life lasts a number of weeks, and boy oh boy, is it not just the most charming little thing you've ever seen? I personally love it, and while I don't use a BOOX e-reader, I'd snap one of these up in a moment if I did.

These devices are more useful than they might initially seem. Imagine you're nestled under the covers on a cold night, nice and cosy. But oh no, your arms aren't, because you need them to read your book. One Tappy held in your hand means you can prop your e-reader up and keep reading while keeping your arms warm.

It's a niche accessory, yes, but it's also only $26. Frankly, it's worth the money even if it lives on your bedside table.

It's also a bit unbelievable that Amazon hasn't created something similar for the Kindle. Kindle users have been crying out for one of these for years, and it must be quite annoying to see BOOX owners have just gotten one, and an adorably cute one at that.

Still, now Kobo and BOOX owners have theirs, maybe Amazon Kindle owners will be next. Or, perhaps they could jump ship to a better alternative.
