YouTube is giving videos a much cleaner look

by · Android Police

It looks like YouTube is preparing to make some cosmetic changes again, and so, we're all about to have to relearn our muscle memories once again.

Redesigns often ruin apps for millions of people — until we all get used to the new design, of course. This time around, it looks as if YouTube is prioritizing a sleeker, less cluttered interface.

New update has much less information below the video

You likely don't think too much about what's below a video you're watching. Maybe you glance at the comments, if you're feeling brave. You might consider checking out the channel itself, or drop a subscribe. But apart from that, I imagine you don't spend a lot of time looking at it.

Well, let me tell you that there's a fair amount of information down there. There's the channel name and logo, various video stats, and then a long list of buttons that stretches off to the right-hand side containing the numerous actions you can take. It is, now I've stopped to consider it, a lot. Which might be why YouTube has decided to change up the look.

As you can see in the screenshots above (courtesy of Android Authority), YouTube has tidied up the bar immediately below the video. The channel information has been reduced to effectively just the channel logo and the username, while the buttons below have been brought in line with the logo, and shrunk down to four icons: Like, Dislike, Share, and Ask. Save, Download, and Report are hidden behind an overflow menu to the right of the four icons.

I dislike redesigns as much as the next guy, but I have to admit this looks much cleaner than before. You don't realize quite how cluttered the old design was until it went away, and this new style is quite nice.

However, it does bring more attention to the AI-powered Ask feature, which YouTube must be hoping more people will use. I can't personally see the point of it, it just seems like another crowbarred-in AI feature crowbarred-in AI feature. But hey, someone must be a fan of it.
