T-Mobile's T-Satellite is now more useful thanks to its new expansion into more regions
by Timi Cantisano · Android PoliceIt's been a while since we last heard about T-Mobile's T-Satellite service. Although it might not be the most popular feature the carrier offers, it's nice knowing there's a safety net for communication available when needed. With that said, we're getting news that the coverage is now expanding, with T-Mobile customers getting satellite coverage while in Canada and New Zealand thanks to support from carriers Rogers and One NZ.
You might not need it, but it's good to have
The news comes from the Mobile Internet Resource Center sharing that Rogers in Canada and One NZ in New Zealand will be providing support for T-Mobile's satellite service in their respective regions (via Android Authority). The news outlet also reports that Rogers and One NZ customers visiting the US will also gain satellite coverage as well.
This reciprocal service will be supported by T-Mobile's network while travelers from abroad are in the US. It's probably a feature you don't use every day, but T-Mobile's satellite coverage is something good to have if you're ever in an area that has less-than-ideal coverage. Plus, if you're in the US, you can access popular apps to stay connected beyond standard texts.
Perhaps one of the more notable upgrades of the service includes being able to connect to X, WhatsApp, and other services without a traditional cellular data connection. Again, this is all going to be depend on your needs, and how often you really travel outside the usual coverage area.
Personally, since this service has been active, I've never been in an area without cellular coverage. But, you never know, in an emergency, you might actually need it. If this sounds like something you've been thinking about getting, you might want to check your service from T-Mobile to see if it's included. The brand offers it as part of its top-tier plans like Experience Beyond.
You can also spend $10/month to add the service, even if you're currently not a T-Mobile customer. Yes, if you're with AT&T or Verizon, you can spend $10/month to get T-Satellite coverage. Again, it's going to really depend on where you live and how often you travel outside coverage areas. But in an emergency, this is a feature you want to have available.
