This Gemini feature runs tasks automatically, and I'm shocked more people aren't using it
by Sanuj Bhatia · Android PoliceI've watched Gemini evolve from the Bard days into what it is today.
While some of the newer additions have been genuinely useful, my current favorite is Gemini's ability to understand what's on your screen and answer questions based on that context.
There are also a few Gemini features that arrived months ago and somehow managed to fly completely under the radar.
The one I'm talking about is Scheduled Actions. This feature lets Gemini perform recurring tasks for you automatically, without you having to repeatedly ask for the same thing every day.
And it's one of the most underrated tools Google has added to Gemini so far.
Here's how you can set up Scheduled Actions in Gemini, what they can do, and why they've quietly become one of my favorite Gemini features on Android.
I'll also share a few ways I've been using them and why I think you should be paying more attention to them.

Scheduled Actions automates tasks you'd normally repeat yourself
Most people use Gemini by opening the app, asking a question, and then moving on until the next time they need help.
But what if you ask Gemini the same thing every day or every week? That's exactly where Scheduled Actions come in.
Scheduled Actions let Gemini automatically perform recurring tasks without you having to remember to ask each time.
Need a football roundup every morning? Scheduled Actions can do that. Want a daily stock market summary or an update on a specific topic? Gemini can handle that too. You could even have it generate a meal plan every Monday morning for the week ahead.
Basically, if it's something you'd normally ask Gemini at regular intervals, Scheduled Actions can automate it for you.
Creating a Scheduled Action in the Gemini app is pretty straightforward. Here's how you can do it on your Android phone:
- Open the Gemini app.
- Tap the hamburger menu in the upper-left corner.
- Go to Settings.
Scroll down and select Scheduled Actions.
- Tap the + button in the upper-right corner.
- Enter a name, the instructions Gemini should follow, and how often it should run.
Tap Create when you're done.
By default, new actions are set to run daily at 9:00 a.m., but you can customize both the timing and frequency.
However, you can only create up to 10 Scheduled Actions per account.
It's also a paid feature right now, meaning you'll need either a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription to use it. Free Gemini users don't currently have access to Scheduled Actions.
I've been finding new uses for Scheduled Actions every week
The more I use it, the more ideas I keep coming up with
Ever since discovering Scheduled Actions earlier this month, I've been using it to automate a bunch of recurring tasks, and I'm still surprised more people aren't talking about it.
Scheduled Actions have genuinely changed my workflow. I've set up four automations that now work together and deliver information exactly when I need it.
With the FIFA World Cup going on right now, one of my Scheduled Actions searches the web every day and compiles all the World Cup highlights into a single document around noon.
Instead of manually hunting down highlight videos, I get them delivered automatically to my notification shade.
I've set up four automations that now deliver information exactly when I need it.
For more practical day-to-day stuff, I've also created a Scheduled Action that checks my email every morning and flags any bills due that day.
It helps make sure I don't miss a credit card payment, ISP bill, or any other recurring expense.
You can do the same thing for other types of emails as well.
For example, you can ask Gemini to scan your inbox every day for notices from your kid's school or important work-related conversations and summarize them into a quick digest.
My favorite one is a Scheduled Action that runs every Monday at 6 a.m. and generates a meal plan for the week.
I've told Gemini how much protein I want to consume each day and specified that I don't eat meat on Tuesdays. It takes all of that into account and builds a weekly meal plan around those preferences.
You could also use Scheduled Actions for things like daily news briefings, weather forecasts, stock updates, or recurring work summaries.
When you start thinking about it, there are a surprising number of use cases.
Gemini's Scheduled Actions are truly underrated
Scheduled Actions has unlocked an entirely different use case for Gemini for me.
Instead of only asking questions when I remember to, I now have Gemini proactively surfacing useful information throughout the week.
This is just one of several underrated Gemini features.
There are quite a few hidden tools tucked away inside Gemini that deserve a lot more attention than they're currently getting, although Scheduled Actions is easily near the top of that list for me.
