Google has killed again. The Pixel Tablet is dead

It seems like Google has killed off the Pixel Tablet entirely. The slate has disappeared from Google's webstore, and the option for "Tablet" has also been removed from the bar, signaling there isn't likely to be a replacement any time soon.

The three-year-old device was never a sales winner, but we certainly hadn't expected it to be killed off any time soon.

, and despite being a decent device, it's safe to say it hasn't really found its place. So it's not a huge surprise that Google is seemingly giving up on it.

What is a surprise is quite how thoroughly Google is salting the earth. Jetstream noticed the device had been marked as "out of stock" a few days ago, followed by it then being scrubbed entirely from Google's webstore (via Engadget).

In fact, not only has the Pixel Tablet been removed from Google's website, but so has the Tablet category. It's a sign that Google has, once again, given up on tablets.

Google has a bad history with tablets, and the Pixel Tablet's fate won't help that at all. The Pixel brand's history is speckled with tablet failures. The Pixel C was the first, a 10.2-inch slate released in 2015. It ran Android and had an optional keyboard. It was no iPad, but Google clearly thought it deserved a second shot — which it got in 2018, with the

Unfortunately, Google wasn't so rosy with the Pixel Slate. Development on successors was canned less than a year after the reveal, and it directly lead to Google deciding to stop developing tablets.

That lasted until the reveal of the Pixel Tablet in 2023, which came with a number of accessories, like a stand. The outlook was hopeful, but it clearly hasn't worked out.

Other webstores may still have stock of the Pixel Tablet if you're desperate to get one, but it's fair to say it's unlikely to be a good investment now. Google initially promised updates until June 2028, but we have no idea it will continue to honor that promise now. We hope so for

, but we wouldn't put money on it.
