Samsung's Voice Recorder will get an improved transcription feature to understand you better
by Timi Cantisano · Android PoliceArtificial intelligence has been a bit of a hot topic over the past couple of years. For the first time in a long time, everyone's talking about it. And you don't even need to be in the tech space to understand what it is and what it could become.
And it isn't hard to understand why big companies like Google and Samsung are pursuing it in an attempt to make their products and services better. AI changed things, pushing through walls most never thought possible. And whether you love it or hate it, AI is here to stay.
Another boost using AI
With that said, Samsung is looking to give its Voice Recorder app a nice boost when it comes to transcriptions. SamMobile reports that the app will get a new feature called "Cloud transcription", which will upload voice recordings to the cloud to get better quality results.
These results will be generated using AI in the cloud. Just like any fresh feature, it won't support every single language right out of the gate. But the screenshot provided by the news outlet shows that English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Shanghainese, Minnan, Sichuanese, and Shaanxi will be supported when released.
The news outlet also highlights being able to convert recordings, but details about this feature are scarce. The outlet thinks that the feature will allow users to convert recordings into different types of files. In addition, there will be a new data management menu for voice recordings, making it easier to see just how much data these files are taking.
Samsung will also add some minor UI changes, like adding a waveform during playback and cleaning up the appearance of the menu system. For the time being, you won't be able to access any of these settings on the public release of the app because the new features are still being tested.
But SamMobile seems to think that it could be out in beta soon, maybe even showing in the One UI 9 beta for the Samsung Galaxy S26. While we can't wait to see Samsung's latest One UI 9 update, we're more interested in the phones being announced on July 22. This week, Samsung officially announced that new foldables would take the Galaxy Unpacked stage in London.
New foldables with new software
This year, we're hoping to see a new foldable phone entry, with a wider version of the Z Fold 8. Many are speculating that this will be the trend for foldables going forward, with other brands set to announce their version of this device in the coming months. Perhaps the most interesting out of the bunch will reportedly come from Apple.
The brand is set to launch its first-ever foldable phone this year, and it will feature a wide and short design. We've seen companies try this before, like with Google and its original Pixel Fold, and even more recently with Huawei's Pura X Max. Although this goes against the current trend, it could be the way these devices were intended.
