Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 fixes some annoying bugs while taking a few features away

Less than two weeks after rolling out Android 17's QPR2 Beta 5, Google is pushing the sixth beta. This one addresses a few annoying bugs, including an unexpected device reboot problem on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold when using a third-party camera app.

Google's release notes for Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 mention the following fixes:

• A visual regression causing letterboxed content to leak through the status bar during activity transitions. (Issue #493438057)
• The screensaver displays a blank screen while charging. (Issue #516262713, Issue #526560397)
• Unexpected device reboots on Pixel 9 Pro Fold when initializing the camera viewfinder in third-party applications. (Issue #555960820, Issue #558564487, Issue #554763027, Issue #559421409)
• Locked applications could not be dismissed using swipe gestures in Recents. (Issue #555579953)
• A system kernel crash causing devices to unexpectedly reboot when third-party applications requested simultaneous camera and microphone access during biometric identity verification. (Issue #557712189)
• An issue that caused device crashes, reboots, or hangs when scrolling.

Android 17 QPR2 is still over two months away from release, so Google has plenty of time to fix any remaining issues and bugs. That also means we could see another couple of beta builds before the final version lands in early December.

Google temporarily pulls several Android 17 QPR2 features

There are several feature regressions in the latest QPR2 beta build, though. It removes blurred notifications on the lock screen. For now, Mishaal Rahman says this is a temporary revert, as the team works on fixing some bugs.

Likewise, some Quick Settings customization features have been removed from this beta. Mishaal says the team is making "further refinements based on early feedback."

App Lock functionality is missing, too. Based on Mishaal's comments in the Reddit thread, "the team decided to temporarily pull back the feature in recent beta builds to allow for additional polish, thorough testing, and integration across all system surfaces," it seems the feature may take a while to return.

Builds for the Pixel 11 family are still missing, but Google says they are coming soon. So, for now, your Pixel 11 will be stuck on Android 16 QPR2 Beta 5.

On Pixel 7, the latest QPR2 beta brings back the 6.12 kernel, which was removed in the previous beta. If your Pixel is already on Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5, the Beta 6 OTA should be available for download on your device.
