Crosby Awuah Memorial Park: From Premier League venue to dilapidated structure

· GhanaSoccernet

The Crosby Awuah Memorial Park, once the vibrant home ground of Karela United, has fallen into a state of severe disrepair following the club's relocation from Anyinase to Tamale.

After the takeover of Karela United by Haruna Iddrisu, the stadium — affectionately known as CAM Park — was reportedly left abandoned and exposed to the elements, leading to its rapid deterioration.

The facility was among the first astro turf stadiums to host Ghana Premier League matches, standing alongside the Tema Sports Stadium and the WAFA Park in Sogakope. It was a source of pride for the Anyinase community and a key venue for top-flight football.

Football supporters in Anyinase have now appealed to the family of the late Mr. Brigidi, after whom the park is named, and the area's Member of Parliament, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, to help renovate and restore the stadium to its former glory.

The decline of the venue serves as a stark reminder of what can happen when clubs move away without putting measures in place to preserve their former homes. For the people of Anyinase, the hope is that the park can be revived and once again serve as a hub for the local community and grassroots football.
