Ayaneo Next II Gaming Handheld Teased With 9" OLED & Ryzen AI Max+ 395

by · HotHardware

Ayaneo has reintroduced its highly anticipated Ayaneo Next II design, first teased in January 2023. While the handheld looks similar, some obvious changes have been made, including a pivot to an AMD Strix Point APU and a 9-inch OLED display. This put the Ayaneo Next II handheld into a rare category of OLED PC gaming handhelds, and the only OLED handheld featuring Strix Point, which should make this device interesting to enthusiasts with deep pockets. The display has a native resolution of 2400 x 1504 with a 165 Hz target refresh rate.

The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is a 16-core, 32-thread behemoth with a healthy allocation of 40 RDNA 3.5 Compute Units with its Radeon 8060S onboard graphics. It's by far the most graphically-powerful APU on the market, doubling the cores and more than doubling the GPU Compute Units of the AMD Z2 Extreme chipset used by ROG Xbox Ally X and contemporaries. When we tested it with the ASUS ROG Flow Z13, it was quite impressive.

This means that the Ayaneo Next II should be about twice as powerful as that handheld, and based on the included 115Wh battery (which seems to be the largest in its category), it should have the power to back it up. Earlier today, Ayaneo released a tweet showcasing further details on the device after another tease unveiling the OLED panel and CPU yesterday.

Besides top-of-the-line internals, there's a slight redesign to the dual touchpads, making the device look a little more different from Steam Deck. There are now also mode-switching triggers, Hall-Effect analog sticks, and four extra back buttons. We're also seeing that the system is using a dual-fan cooler, which should help a lot when driving the Ryzen AI Max 395+ to its full potential.

Sadly, price and release window have yet to be confirmed, and RAM is very blatantly omitted from the current specifications, likely due to the ongoing DRAM crisis (a RAMpocalypse, if you will). While that does make a future pricing seem ominous, this does still look to be a great showing from Ayaneo if you can afford it.
