This Wednesday sees the release of Web Of Venom #1 by Jordan Morris, Ramon Rosanas and Luke Ross. So while Mary Jane Watson is hosting the Venom symbiote in Amazing Spider-Man, in the second there seems to be a pretender to that throne already. As the solicit says "There is an even NEWER symbiote wearing hero on the scene sporting the red-and-blue Spidey inspired look on the streets of Earth 616…but it's not Mary Jane Watson, and it's not Eddie Parker!" Eddie Parker, the parallel universe Spider-Man/Venom who also sports this look… and no it's not Eddie Brok either.
But this is a new symbiote, although born of Venom, and a new host, though known to Spider-Man.
And posing as, well, a Spider-Man of sorts… but who is inside?
And the fastest arm in the world, using the symbiote suit to create… no, not adamantium claws like Wolverine.
It's not Wolverine. That's just a red herring, Instead, check the shape of them… they are not claws. Time for that spoiler image?
There we go. They are not claws. They are boomerangs. Because that is Boomerang, Fred Myers, longtime Spider-Man villain. A former professional baseball pitcher from Australia who turned to crime, using his exceptional throwing arm and an arsenal of high-tech trick boomerangs. Suspended for taking bribes, he was recruited by the criminal organization, Secret Empire, who equipped him with a costume and specialized weaponry designed to exploit his pitching skills, turning him into their operative codenamed Boomerang. He was created by Jack Kirby, Gene Colan and Stan Lee for the Hulk story in Tales to Astonish #81, but is now most associated with Spider-Man. And now that he is the new Venom-alike character in the new Web Of Venom series, even more so. But if you still think this is just me making it up from one panel from a preview, well, this is Bleeding Cool, we can take the next spoilery step together. Are you ready? Hold hands now…
Boom. Web Of Venom #1 by Jordan Morris, Ramon Rosanas and Luke Ross is published by Marvel Comics this Wednesday, alongside the new Amazing Spider-Man #26.
